An ex- American diplomat, Dan Fried, observed, "Putin is attempting to derail the progress toward increased pressure on Russia." Fried continued, "The outcome will become clear on Friday, but the chances of moving toward a ceasefire by pressuring Russia to get serious seem to have decreased."

The situation followed Trump had recently been strengthening his language toward Moscow until the recent call with Putin, which the Russian government characterized as "highly open and constructive."

European Energy Sanctions and Market Effects

The European Union have set a requirement for fuel suppliers into the European Union to prove their products are not sourced from Russian crude, according to a document published on recently. This step is included in the EU's upcoming prohibition on imports of refined products made from Russian crude, which forms part of its latest restrictive measures against Moscow over its military actions in Ukraine.

Financial experts observed that investment activity appeared to be considering the possible reduction of Indian purchases of Russian oil. Some Indian refiners are getting ready to reduce purchases from Russia, with projections of a gradual decrease, according to insiders knowledgeable about the situation.

"This represents a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a major customer of Russian crude," commented a market analyst, noting that crude values were steady on Thursday.

A massive Moscow's drone and missile assault targeted gas facilities in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, causing outages in multiple areas. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russian forces deployed hundreds of drones and dozens of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.
