NFL 2025 season: Week six

Real-time updates features live text of the weekend matchups on multiple platforms, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, audio coverage is available through select stations for a separate game (from 21:00 BST).

We're in the sixth week in the football calendar , following recent talk regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, each surrendered their unbeaten records.

Striking in those games was the number of penalties both committed. The Eagles committed them at crucial times so they kind of defeated themselves having led 17-3 going into the fourth period versus Denver, who play overseas this weekend.

But it was positive to observe how Denver quarterback the rookie managed to have the shortfall before direct three scoring drives in three attempts during the final period, securing the victory by four points.

Denver boast the top defender with cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are number one in red zone defence, while the Eagles are number one in scoring near the end zone, yet Denver prevailed in that battle.

They had effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They did not necessarily rushing extra pass rushers but they might position two linebackers in the interior before withdrawing them and dispatch a slot defender from the outside.

Early on of the season, it was noted on a program that the Broncos could be this season's dark horses. They finished the previous year well then did a good job of building upon that.

Are the Denver Broncos this season's underdog story?

New TE Evan Engram has excelled significantly and recent running back JK Dobbins is a player they believe in. He now ranks 5th league-wide in ground gains (over 400) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).

I love that head coach the Broncos' leader displays "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.

That shows how the Broncos represent a team aiming to run first, since you can achieve much off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush while maintains in favourable situations.

It's also helped quarterback Bo Nix, who came the NFL as a first-round selection last year, passing for 29 TDs – just behind Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 in 2020).

Other elite QBs possess the arm strength to throw anywhere, however they lack the mobility that Nix has. He has exceptional arm talent, which is different, plus he's highly agile.

His strengths are his mobility, being able to throw on the run, and using varied release points to make throws when he rolls outside protection, the bootlegs. He is able to throw that layered pass over the middle and over the corner.

For a young quarterback, aged 25, he's got a lot of composure under pressure and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He aims to avoid being tackled as much as possible and is able pass in tight spots. He has sharp intelligence and is quick to decide.

When you consistently run the ball it eats up the clock and forces the opponent to stay on the field extended periods, and if you've got a mobile QB the defence has to cover the area vertically side to side. It can be exhausting.

Nix has pushed back at Payton during games sometimes and I think Payton likes that fire, that he's a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for the coach to coach a young quarterback who's similar to play-dough. The coach can really build something up how he wants to build it. I believe it's a special experience for the coach.

Payton has won a championship and has passed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed everything. In my opinion the achievements Denver are experiencing offensively is largely down to his leadership, his play-calling, his situational awareness – and the pairing with the QB helps shape him into who he is.

There's no better a better guy guiding you, to help you during difficult moments and boost self-belief.

I have faith in Denver's defence, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they good enough to face an elite team at its best? Because that was not championship-level play by the Eagles last Sunday.

Currently, I don't think the Broncos are elite. They're working above average, that's a good place to hold their division. All they need to do is maintain this path.

They're really good at leaning into their forte, that is the ground game, and this is exactly what they should do against the Jets in London. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.

New York have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they are the sole squad yet to win a game.

Ever since the NFL started recording turnovers decades ago, the Jets are also the first team to go without a single takeaway in five outings, this is surprising considering that their new coach Aaron Glenn a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.

The Chiefs' QB says the Chiefs are off to a poor start after a recent loss by the Jaguars.

After the upcoming matchup, the Broncos have a smooth-ish schedule up to their bye (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Chiefs.

Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs hold a losing record and the Broncos are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 so they could make a run for the top of the division.

This hinges on which form Kansas City shows up they meet since the Broncos {beat|def
