Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the hit program coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Will the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
