The Three Lions to Start Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the expected passage for a tournament hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions game since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to stage the Three Lions for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The English side are set to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Opening and Demonstration

The tournament was unveiled at an ceremony in central London on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were heckled as they arrived the site by about 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were held up with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The first match of the European Championship will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will feature the Welsh team if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help connect with a more diverse set of fans.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are set to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the standard process.

Venues and Playoffs

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals staged at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.

Leadership Comment

“This will be a tournament for the followers and a celebration of everything we love about the football – its fervor and power to foster unity.”

In excess of three million admissions, a unprecedented number for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be released to attendees.
