The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration Over Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Response
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Sizing System Changes
Previously, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, from Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
