The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach another team within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, yet sharing a meal with the players enjoying conversation, is pleasant. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended of the current boss, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident with his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. It was an incredible shock for all the boys also. No one within the club might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that individually is challenging. Impossible.”
