Former Physician Accused of Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges follow what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Prosecutors said the forty-five sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
