Democrats Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials voiced anger after the ex-president alleged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be arrested and sentenced "by death" following their posting of a contentious video.

The Message That Triggered the Controversy

The clip, published on Tuesday, includes six Democratic elected officials who previously worked in defense or defense positions.

"Like us, you all took an oath to defend and support this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the short video. "And right now, the risks to our governing document don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can refuse improper directives, you can reject illegal orders, you have to decline improper directives. No one has to execute orders that violate the legal system or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Incensed Response

The recorded statement reportedly prompt a heated reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump published on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he wrote: "This is really bad, and Harmful to our United States. Their comments cannot be allowed to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials Respond

Following Trump's statements on that day, Democratic leadership published a combined statement denouncing the comments.

"Violent politics has no role in the United States," they declared. "Elected officials who participated in the video all worked our nation with great national pride and distinction. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous death threats against members of Congress, and urge Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."

The opposition officials also said that they had been in contact with law enforcement "to make certain the security of these members and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay remove these unhinged online messages and retract his aggressive language before he leads to violence," the declaration continued.

Representatives' Defiant Response

The officials who appeared in the video also released a response.

"We are former service members and defense specialists who love this country and swore an oath to defend and support the founding document of the United States," they stated. "This commitment continues forever, and we plan to keep it. No warning, intimidation, or incitement will stop us from that fundamental responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the ex-president views it punishable by execution for us to restate the legal requirements," they continued. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their support as they carry out their vow to the national charter and responsibility to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "Every American must join forces and denounce the president's demands for our execution and partisan aggression. This is a moment for principled stance."

More Partisan Comments

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's statements and posted on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is demanding the execution of government members."

He added: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should censure this immediately and absolutely."

The Conservative official justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "It is very dangerous, you have prominent officials of the government instructing military personnel to defy commands, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also reportedly informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the violation of treason" but that "legal experts have to parse the terminology and decide all that."

Executive Branch Response

During a administration briefing on Thursday afternoon, when inquired by a journalist, "Does the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson replied: "Certainly not."

"It's important to note about what the president is reacting to," the official stated. "There are sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a video message to personnel of the national defense, to serving soldiers advising them to defy the president's proper directives."

She stated: "The sanctity of our armed forces depends on the command structure, and if that structure is compromised, it can result in fatalities, it can result in confusion, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are essentially encouraging."
