Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant backing from the top,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Club Management

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell such as this with performances so bad.”

He stated, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
