A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
